Lay Your Head Down

A dark moon is rising o're the cold winter plain.
The old sun is dying and echoes my pain,
But alone, in the distance, a figure I see,
At once so familiar and yet, such a stranger to me.

I still see the midnights that turned into dawn,
Dissolving all sorrows 'till 'morrows were gone.
And if I could but touch him and tell him I care,
He'd know that my spirit still cries for the burden he bears.

Oh, lay your head down. Be at peace, my love,
Though your heart may be broken in twain.
I will still be here, my arms ever open,
'Till the day that I hold you again.

The joy and the laughter will always be there,
Held deep in my heart with the love that we share,
So remember the rainbows, instead of the rain
And lose all your shadows and let all the sunshine remain.

Oh, lay your head down. Be at peace, my love,
Though your heart may be broken in twain.
I will still be here, my arms ever open,
'Till the day that I hold you again.
And I know I will hold you again.
