Yule Night

On this darkest winter's night,
With the Yule log burning bright,
Mothers loving watch do keep
While the children sleep.
Light the candles one by one.
Welcome back the midnight sun:
Keeping watch all through the night,
'Till the morning light.
All the world lies soft and deep,
Winter's cold winds blow,
While the Mother's children sleep
Safe beneath the snow.
Gently hold me, my desire,
While we snuggle by the fire,
Waiting for the birds to sing
With the dawn of spring.
